Henry & Iota - update

Friday, June 09, 2006

Henry has had another slight stroke today. It is barely noticeable to him(he still eats and walks around Ok) but we can see that he losing his balance again and his head has got a serious tilt again.

We are ploughing lots of medicines into him and crossing our fingers.

Iota had her teeth trimmed again yesterday -just one week after last time. It went Ok but we still need to wait another 2-3 months until her skull has fully formed as pulling teeth can cause serious damage to an unformed skull.

Her next teeth burring session is next Wednesday - at around £30-£50 each time, we think Iota is going to be the most expensive rat in history! However, if it works, it will be worth every penny.

Sick ratties

Wednesday, June 07, 2006

While Henry still remains stable, sadly we had to have little Phoebe put to sleep last Friday. She had been suffering from a tumour for quite some time and while using medication and alternatives to control it, in the end the tumour won out.

Phoebe was the last surviving mum out of a group of three juvenile mums (and 30-odd babies)that the rescue took in November 2004. Out of the babies, just three survive, the rest having died of tumours, respiratory disease and allergies at young ages. They were a genetci mess due to in breeding.

We are extremely sad.

Sasha - the mum rat living with Iota - hurt her foot on Monday. Thankfully today she is back to normal. Iota is due to have her teeth cut again Friday - just 8 days since it was last done - and one of our pet cats, Chelsea, has been very ill.

Mack - one of our permanent residents - has developed a lump..it's all a bit doom and gloom really.

Depsite this horrible time we are having which is making us feel really depressed, all it takes is just one silly ratty - such as new boy Oscar or rat ambassador Baldrick - to put a smile on your face. Just one lick from them on your nose and the world seems a better place.....

  About Us

The aim of our charity is not only to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome small animals, but to educate individuals and animal-related organisations on proper small animal healthcare and welfare. We regularly run successful campaigns to this effect

Our website provides details of unwanted, abandoned and abused small furries (such as degus, rabbits, hamsters, rats and guinea pigs) that need loving homes not just at this rescue but nationwide and also provides lots of useful articles and information.

Our five year plan is to build a dedicated rodent rescue sanctuary with fully qualified staff 24/7 and the facility to take in hundreds of 'small furries'.
