Patch rat

Wednesday, September 13, 2006

It is with very a heavy heart that I write to say that Patch was put to sleep yesterday morning.

She had been battling with a tumour under her back leg for a while and the stress of it had exacerbated her respiratory problems. Although she had been on aggressive medication for both problems and coping very well, she went downhill very quickly overnight on Sunday.

We discussed it with our vet first thing yesterday morning and we all agreed that the kindest thing to do was to have her put to sleep.

I was right there stroking her as she slipped away and she went very peacefully.

She will be sorely missed.

Cat chat event raises £130 for us!

On September 12, cat behaviour counsellor and author Vicky Halls gave a talk on a wide range of cat behavioural issues at Strood Library Hall, Kent in an event organised by the Stanhope Veterinary Centre also in Strood - and raised £130 for local small animal charity CavyRescue!

The event - which was a follow up to Vicky's hugely successful previous 'Cat Chat' evening also organised also by Stanhope Vets in June this year - was great fun and everyone came away with tons more knowledge about their feline friends.

Stella Hulott from CavyRescue - which rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes small animals such as guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits and rats - says: "We are thrilled that the event raised such a fabulous amount of money for the small furries in our care. It was great to see such a good turn out and we wish Vicky all the best with the launch of her new book. A big thanks also to Andrea, Hilde and the team at Stanhope Vets, who organised the event."

  About Us

The aim of our charity is not only to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome small animals, but to educate individuals and animal-related organisations on proper small animal healthcare and welfare. We regularly run successful campaigns to this effect

Our website provides details of unwanted, abandoned and abused small furries (such as degus, rabbits, hamsters, rats and guinea pigs) that need loving homes not just at this rescue but nationwide and also provides lots of useful articles and information.

Our five year plan is to build a dedicated rodent rescue sanctuary with fully qualified staff 24/7 and the facility to take in hundreds of 'small furries'.
